Opening Reception

This gala evening will take place in the Francis
Winspear Centre for Music, the home of the Edmonton
Symphony Orchestra. This wonderful venue has a delightful clerestory
foyer for gatherings and we will feature a short performance on
the fabulous Davis Concert Organ.
The opening reception will be a memorable kick-off
to the CALL/ACBD 2006 Conference.
Monday Fun Night
at Red’s (West Edmonton Mall)

CALL/ACBD 2006 will feature a fun night at West Edmonton
Mall. This exceptional shopping centre includes Red’s,
a fun-filled facility that is the perfect venue for a Monday night
break. Red’s features food and fun including a Mini-Olympics with
bowling, games, and billiards. An evening at Red’s is unforgettable!

The 2006 closing banquet will be a wonderful evening
of dining and dancing at Blatchford Field Air Hangar
at Fort Edmonton Park. One of Edmonton's premier attractions, Fort
Edmonton Park is a living history museum that traces the growth

Conference attendees will enjoy the atmosphere of
Fort Edmonton Park and dancing to live music in a replica 1929 air
hangar.
Blatchford Field Air Hangar is a wonderful venue to
enjoy fine dining and dancing to the sounds of Aura. The repertoire
of the band includes over 250 songs; from ballads to rock 'n roll,
latin to big band swing, polkas to contemporary top 40, and a lot
more.

Saturday Afternoon Tours
Heart of Edmonton - Bus/Walk Tour
12:30 - 4:30
A rich cultural mosaic spans both sides of the North
Saskatchewan River. Discover Edmonton's history and diversity by
bus as you visit a variety of cultural and heritage sites including
the prominent neighbourhoods of Glenora and Oliver. Explore Downtown's
multi-ethnic neighbourhoods (eg. Chinatown and Little Italy), see
academic landmarks at the University of Alberta campus, and get
off the bus at the Legislature grounds.
After a brief stop at the grounds, enjoy a leisurely
2 hour walking tour through parts of the river valley, while listening
to archaeological interpretations. Travel to sites along the river
valley that retrace the steps of the aboriginal people of Alberta.
Stroll along the riverbank to see where archaeological discoveries
support evidence of burial grounds, campsites, Hudson’s Bay Forts,
coal mines and brickyards.
Continue the historical walk by exploring Old Strathcona,
the city’s largest heritage area. Listen to stories, past and present,
of the development, characters, and events from this treasured community,
while discovering charming shops and historic buildings.
For the final hour, view other points of interest
by bus, such as the Muttart Conservatory, prior to returning to
the Westin.

Saturday Evening Social
Ghosts and Graveyards!
7:00 p.m. to 10:00
Depart from the Westin on one of Nite Tours’ Fun Buses,
and travel to The Guilty Martini lounge in Old Strathcona. Enjoy
a multi-media presentation on ghosts and ghost hunting while upping
your courage level with refreshments of your choice, followed by
a visit to this establishment’s Haunted Stairwell!
Back on the bus, your experienced tour guide will
entertain you with a blend of ghost stories and well-researched
Edmonton historical facts. The evening’s route includes:
- Downtown – Warehouse District, Jasper Ave. (CKUA
Building, General Hospital, Edmonton Journal Building, and many
others in the downtown core)
- McKay School (Walking Tour/Site Visit)
- Arlington Apartments
- Edmonton Cemetery and Mausoleum (Walking Tour/Site
Visit)
The tour ends back at the Westin, whereupon you may
retreat in safety for the evening, or continue imbibing drinks right
across the street at First City, a fabulous New York style lounge,
or alternatively at the Sherlock Holmes pub, just around the corner.
NOTE
- all Edmonton lounges and pubs are SMOKE-FREE
- bring your camera if you wish to try and capture
some ghostly orbs on film!

Run / Walk
River Valley Walk or
Run in the Mornings
Experience Edmonton's beautiful river valley!
Join us for a group led Walk or Run in the longest
interlinked recreational area of urban parkland in North America!
The Walk/Runs will be approx. 40 - 45 minutes out and back (5 Km
leisurely runs). There should still be time to get a muffin and
juice afterwards. Different routes will be offered every day.
All participants meet inside the Westin, in the Lobby,
about 15 minutes prior. For all the details, see

Yukon Special
Whitehorse, Yukon is the deep south of the
far north. Come for a post conference visit. Leave Edmonton on any
Friday in May and stay for three nights (long nights, as the sun
sets around 10:30 p.m. in May) and return to Edmonton on Monday.
