The tour will take us along the Ottawa River and across the Champlain bridge to the entrance of the park. Our first stop will be at the Champlain Lookout which overlooks the Ottawa valley from the edge of the Canadian Shield. and offers a breathtaking view of the Ottawa River Valley. We’ll drive through picturesque towns and spend time in Wakefield, a quaint village nestled on the shore of the Gatineau River and home to many artists and craftsmen. Wakefield boasts a red covered bridge, many small boutiques, a renovated mill and the Maclaren's cemetery where Lester B. Pearson is buried.

The magnificent Gatineau Hills are renowned for their breathtaking landscapes, clear lakes and picturesque towns.

Gatineau park lies just north of Ottawa, in Québec and is a favourite recreational (hiking, canoeing, camping, skiing..) area for people from all around the National Capital Region.

Spring is an ideal  time to visit the Gatineau hills when the lengthening warm days bring out the spring flowers.

Winner of the 2005 Arthur Ellis Award for Best Novel, Barbara Fradkin is an Ottawa child psychologists who divides her time between her practice and writing. Her novels, set in Ottawa and showcasing numerous Ottawa landmarks, feature the exasperating, quixotic Ottawa Police inspector Michael Green, and draw on her personal and professional experiences, and those of her family. Ms. Fradkin is a past president of the Crime Writers in Canada, as well as a regular contributor to Sisters in Crime and Capital Crime Writers. Learn about Ottawa's dark side in this entertaining talk.

Law and Justice in a Fictional World

What is the allure of the mystery novel? Why do millions of intelligent, educated people flock to the mystery aisles of libraries and bookstores? And what prompted a nice, sensitive child psychologist to start plotting murders? These questions and many more will be examined by Ottawa psychologist-turned-author Barbara Fradkin in a light-hearted look at the essence of the mystery novel, its Canadian face, and the challenges and joys of writing about law and justice in a fictional world.
