Resolution 2009/1 approved at Halifax Conference

Resolution 2009/1 was presented and approved at the 2009 Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Association of Law Libraries/Association canadienne des bibliothèques de droit May 27, 2009 in Halifax Nova Scotia.

Recent Appointments at Library and Archives Canada

WHEREAS recent senior appointments at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) have resulted in the positions of Librarian and Archivist of Canada and Assistant Deputy Minister for the Documentary Heritage Collection Sector being held by individuals who are neither professional librarians nor archivists;

AND WHEREAS professional training and experience are needed at senior levels within LAC to direct the continued development of appropriate programs and services;

BE IT RESOLVED that CALL/ACBD Executive

WRITE to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages to express the Association’s concern with the lack of professional librarians and archivists at senior levels within LAC;

AND

URGE the Librarian and Archivist of Canada to ensure that future vacancies at senior levels are filled by professional librarians and archivists.

Nominations récentes à Bibliothèque et Archives Canada  

ATTENDU QUE Bibliothèque et Archives Canada (BAC) a annoncé récemment la nomination de deux personnes qui ne sont ni bibliothécaire professionnel ni archiviste à titre de bibliothécaire et archiviste du Canada, et de sous-ministre adjoint (SMA) du secteur Collection du patrimoine documentaire; et

ATTTENDU QUE les cadres supérieurs de BAC doivent posséder la formation et l’expérience professionnelles nécessaires pour diriger adéquatement les programmes et services  de cet organisme. 

IL EST RÉSOLU que le conseil exécutif de l’ACBD/CALL 

ADRESSE une communication écrite au Ministre du Patrimoine canadien et des Langues officielles du Canada pour lui exprimer nos inquiétudes quant au manque de bibliothécaires professionnels et d’archivistes dans les cadres supérieurs de BAC ; 

ET 

ENCOURAGE le bibliothécaire et archiviste du Canada à s’assurer qu’à l’avenir les postes  de cadre supérieur sont comblés par des bibliothécaires professionnels et des archivistes.
