Mandate

To identify legal information issues facing members of the Canadian Association of Law Libraries; to examine these issues as subjects of real research projects; and to make recommendations as to how these research projects could be carried out.

The committee will also play a role in the dissemination of information on issues by identifying useful articles, reports and members' prepared documents for inclusion in Canadian Law Libraries, the CALL/ACBD web page, or by other means of distribution and sharing of information.

The committee will provide continuity in monitoring existing concerns and projects at the same time that it remains open to new issues.

Work of the Committee

The Committee to Promote Research does the following throughout the year:

  • evaluates applications for the CALL/ACBD Research Grant and made a recommendation to the Executive Board of CALL/ACBD regarding the awarding of the first Research Grant
  • revises the databank of research in progress/research completed by members of CALL/ACBD on the CALL/ACBD web site;
  • maintains a list of links to other research grants and research resources
  • may convene a program at the annual conference

The Committee to Promote Research welcomes input from all members of CALL/ACBD. We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who are engaged in or have recently completed relevant research projects, whether formal or informal, published or unpublished.
